Tulip Chair - Replica

The celebrated design of the Tulip Chair is inspired by the petals of the flower, marking its individual visual characteristic. Created in 1956, the Finnish architect and industrial designer Eero S. made the Tulip Chair following his principles for simple and rational design. His ambition was to reduce clutter and simplify the shape of the chair to a functional, but still aesthetically-pleasing form. The clarified structure of the Tulip Chair is designed to provide perfect comfort and stability along with a touch of elegance. Recognised for its great design features, the chair has won a number of awards from art institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, the Design Center Stuttgart and the Federal Award for Industrial design.

We produce the classic design with great attention to detail. The stable structure consists of a light-coated metal alloy foot and hand-moulded fibreglass bowl seat. The seat is available in a range of colours and has an optional swivel function. The cushion comes in a choice of quality cashmere, classic leather or premium leather in several colours.

About the Designer

Eero S.

Eero S.

Considered one of the masters of American 20th century architecture and design, Eero Saarinen was originally born in Finland before moving to Michigan with his family at the tender age of 13. Influenced heavily by his art-teaching father, Saarinen eventually incurred fame for an inclusive approach and ability to vary his style according to the demands of the project.

Saarinen’s eclectic forms of Modernist vision can be best interpreted by his first-hand experience of such diverse cultural ideologies, amplified by time spent travelling in North Africa, the studying of sculpture at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris and his graduation from architecture at Yale. Lauded for his furniture design and work with Charles Eames, Saarinen is still celebrated internationally to this day for works that include the remodelling of the Swedish National Theatre in Helsinki and his design of the Washington Dulles International Airport.
